My very first contact with UEC began when I was still in China. At that time I was beginning to apply for the JUSST program, there was really a lot of paper work to fill. Yanna San and SASAKI San was to instruct me to finish all these work, I was truly impressed by their kindness, patience and carefulness.
On the very day we arrived in Japan, It took almost 3 hours from Narita airport to UEC. When we finally arrived, it was around 7 o'clock in the evening, a time when most people in China were back at home and watching TV leisurely. To my great surprise, teachers in the International Office were still working and they gave us a warm welcome. What's more, all the senior students and some Japanese students had been waiting for us at the front door. The very first moment I arrived at UEC, I was feeling like nestling into the arms of a big family, and this feeling growed even stronger now.
UEC is small but dedicated,a really nice place for a person who likes to take pictures like me. I have taken a lot of beautiful photos. Later you can see on my website.
Unlike China, Japanese students usually rent apartments outside university, which takes a lot of money. It's so nice that UEC has arranged on-campus dormitories for us. What's nicer, it's really an exciting experience for me to finally have a room just for myself, after living in a shared dormitory ever since my junior school. Everything is so convenient; every dormitory has its own toilet, shower equipment, kitchen, and refrigerator. On the first floor we have shared microwave oven, television, piano as well as electrictrical piano. On the second floor we have a activity house, where we have hold so many party, also there is a shared big kitchen, where we cook food together. Only 3 weeks after came here, I have already tasted Japanese food, Chinese food of course, also France food, Australia food , Estonian food and Tai food, all were really nice.
We have six classes of Japanese every week and UEC has very kindly arranged English classes for us exchange student. This way, as we are learning Japanese language as well as Japanese culture, we can still carry on well with our major course.
UEC is located in Chofu city, which is very beautiful. We have several big departments just outside of UEC, which have brought us so many conviences. On weekend, sometimes there is band playing before the department, it's really exciting to watch the wonderful performance in so close a distance. What's more, there are a lot of restaurant near UEC, it's a pity even I have decided to go on a diet after I came to Japan, I just can't resist the temptation. Chofu is not so crowed ,after all, it's not the center of Tokyo. However it takes only about 15 or 20 minutes to go to Shinjuku, the most prosperous part of Tokyo. Also ,my Japanese friends told me , Chofu is one of the cleanest city in Tokyo, thanks to its strong administration over the cleanness issues.
Life in UEC is really pleasant.
