History
:
Until
1955, PAVIE, undertaken by the French, was still the only one boarding
and secondary school in Vientiane. The school was initially established
in 1925 with the total of 4 classes, 120 pupils and 40 beds of its
boarding school. At the end of 1956, PAVIE had turned into a new
building from secondary school into a high school, which was previously
known as " Lycee Vientiane".
In 1959, Vientiane,
the capital city of Laos, now made its possibility to have a vast
modern high school, which was able to receive 2,150 students. Lycee
Vientiane located in the heart of the city, in a concession area
of 6 hectares. It was harmoniously established between parks. The
school comprised 17 school buildings representing 43 classes with
50 pupils for each class, a boarding school for 120 pupils, a village
hall, 7 buildings of various size representing the whole 36 residences
for the administrative staff and professors.
Since 1975, the Ministry of Education
has directly supervised Vientiane High School.
In 1996, Vientiane High School
declared to open up its own new junior high school (MATHAYOM SUKSA
TORN TON VIENTIANE) combining to its existing high school (MATHAYOM
SUKSA TORN PAI VIENTIANE). This combination creates what is known
as "MATHAYOM SUKSA SOMBOUN VIENTIANE".
There are now approximately 169
full-time teachers teaching from junior high to high school level,
representing 72 classes with 3,864 students.
The educational curriculums emphasize
not only on acquisition of specific knowledges and skills in major
subjects but also on the acquisition of general knowledge, which
helps the students to become high responsible and active members
of the society.
