Vientiane Province

Vientiane province actually begins about 70 Km. Out side of the city of Vientiane.

- Thoulakhom Zoo featuring exotic and rare animals from the jungles of Laos is a surprising example of excellent animal management in Southeast Asia.

- Nam Ngum Dam provides opportunities for boating and picnics on the islands scattered in the dam. Fine fish dishes are offered at floating restaurants and gaming facilities are available at a resort located at Nam Ngum.

- Lao Pako, run by an Austrian and a favorite haunt for expatriate residents of Vientiane, Lao Pako is a good example of ecotourism theory being put into practice. Located about 50 Km. Northeast of Vientiane City on the Nam Ngum River, the lodge is accessible by car or public transport. Visitors can explore the surrounding area, which includes a reclaimed secondary and virgin rainforest, visit hill tribe villages, take a sauna or just relax around a campfire barbecue.

- Vang Vieng, located 160 Km. North of the City of Vientiane, is a small village set amongst dramatic limestone karst mountains. Tourist can stroll along the riverbanks and explore the network of caves. Some of the caves are outlets for underground streams and are ideal places to take a swim and cool off. Its location is an ideal spot to break the trip to Luang Prabang. Both bamboo cabins and guest house accommodation is available.
