Phongsaly is isolated in the northernmost of the country sharingborders with China and Vietnam.

   The population comprises many ethnic minorities namely Thai Dam, Thai Daeng, Yao, Leu, Khammu, and Others.

   Each minority ethnic group has their own identity, languages and culture such as wedding ceremony, handicrafts, silver wares and jewelry.
