Oudomxai is populated by some 23 ethnic minorities mainly Hmong, Ekor, and Khammu. Ecotourism from village to village either by ox carts or on foot is adventurous.

   Tad Lak Sip Et waterfall at Km 11 in Muong Say, as well as hot springs and temples at Muang La and Phouxay Mountain are all natural scenery to be seen in the area.

    Oudomxai's proximity to China has brought the province rapid economic growth and infrastructure developments, including good road access to the provincial capital, Xai.
