Luangnamtha

 

   Muong Sing district, once a garrison town and the most northern outpost of the French colonial system in the country, also the central of the civilization of Sip Song Panna in the south of Yunnan. The old barracks and other colonial buildings are unusual features of this area.


    Wild animals, including breeds of wolves, tigers, dears monkeys and big birds habitat the area of Nam Ha, Namtha National Biodiversity Conservation Area (NBCA).

Travel to the north leads to the Boten border checkpoint with China, and to the west, the Mekong, where speedboats can be taken downstream through gorges and rapids to Houay Xai and Luang Prabang. Main ethnic groups in Luang Namtha are Lao, Leu, and Thai Dam.
