
The provincial capital of Thakek blends colonial
and local architecture and is a pleasant rest stop on the journey
south to Pakse.
The most significant site here
is called That Sikhotaboung Stupa, located only 6 km. South of town.
It was built by King Nanthasen in the 9th -10th centuries and restorations
made in 1950.
Attractive
sites for visits include:
- Tad Kham waterfall, located 52 km. Out of Thakek
- Tad Nam Kengkam waterfall, on route 13, about 37 km. to the east
of Thakek.
- Wat Pha Sokkhamsene temple, an ancient temple located one km.
Out of Nong Bok District and 37 km. From Thakek.
- That Thumphavang Stupa, located about two km. North of Nong Bok
district.
- Tham Nang An cave, located four km. From Banna village in Hinboun
district.
