Champasak

Pakse, the capital of the province at the confluence of the Say River and the Mekong. A link to Thailand and Cambodia the town is a mixture of French colonial and local architecture.

Its geographical condition creates one of the most beautiful tourist sites in Laos. Many small islets are created by the Mekong River as it spreads into more than 10 running ways naming it Si Phan Don (Four Thousand Island).

Further downstream, the Mekong cascades across a wide mouth of rock to form the Khone Phapheng Falls. The Liphi Mekong waterfall is also another amazing act of nature in Champasak. Calmer sections of the river below the falls, forms natural habitat for unique fresh water dolphins.

Wat Phou, a complex of temple buildings constructed in Khmer style overlooking the Mekong is both impressive and inspiring.
