Located in central Laos, Bolikhamxai can be reached by buses twice a day, leaving from the Morning Market bus station. Tourism sites include:

- Ban Nahin, (stone Forest) Located in Phoupha Mone region, Ban Nahin housed thousands of rock pinnacles, creating a stone forest reminiscent of limestone outcrops of southern China.

- Wat Prah Bat temple, an important pilgrimage site between Vientiane and Paksan. Prah Bat temple houses what is said to be and enshrined footprint of Lord Buddha.

- Lak Sao, a new town with a wild-west atmosphere, provides a border crossing to Vietnam and access to limestone karst mountains and the Nam Theun protected wildlife area.
