Located on the southeastern tip of Laos, makes
it well worth a visit, as it is the home of many diverse ethnic
minorities. A trip to the local traditional market, especially early
in the morning is a great place to see ethnic minorities, who come
to sell their products.
Most
of the population in Attapeu is comprised of upland minority groups.
There are nine major tribes in the area, including Alak, Katang,
Kaleum, Katou, Suay, Nge, Lave, Tahoy, and Nyaheung. Other activities
include treks and excursions to local hill tribe villages are easy
to arrange and highly recommended. It is also possible to go on
long jungle treks.
