SUPERCONDUCTOR && MEASUREMENT

What Is SUPERCONDUCTOR?

Superconductivity Is a phenomenon characterized by the disappearance of electrical resistance in various metals, alloys, and compounds when they are cooled below a certain level, usually termed the critical temperature (Tc).
I'm sure it's one of the most widely-know physics concept. ISN'T IT?

What Is LabVIEW?

LabVIEW (Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench) is a development environment based on graphical programming. LabVIEW uses terminology, icons, and ideas familiar to technicians, scientists, and engineers, and relies on graphical symbols rather than textual language to describe programming actions. LabVIEW is integrated fully for communication with hardware such as GPIB, VXI, RS-232, RS-485, and plug-in data acquisition boards. LabVIEW also has built-in libraries for using software standards such as TCP/IP Networking and ActiveX.
I'm sure this is not as widely-known as superconductors. I KNOW IT..

MY PROJECT

TITLE

LabVIEW Based Testing Platform for Superconductors

SUBTITILE

An automatic testing system for Superconductor Characteristic measurement

KEYWORDS

LabVIEW, Virtual Instrument, Superconductor

TOPIC (OUTLINE)

Superconductivity has seized its place as the most exciting field in all of science .Due to its significant special properties, superconducting materials and devices are widely used in our daily life as well as in research areas. More and more new superconducting materials are discovered in recent years, thus an automatic testing system will be greatly needed for us to get a better understanding of the properties of newly discovered superconducting materials. Based on the data acquired from the testing system, physicists and engineers would be able to take great advantage of the properties of these superconducting materials and make them to full utilization. Thereby improve our life and further change the world we are living in. The automatic testing system consists of two parts: the hardware and the software. The former includes a testing platform that provides a low temperature environment, a temperature sensor that convert temperature signals into electric signals, a constant current generator, the PCI Data Acquisition Card (DAQ) (the type has not been decided yet ) and the peripheral circuit. The latter refer to the PC terminal on which the LabVIEW software panel operates.

OBJECTIVES

The constructed testing system should be able to collect relatively precise data (on voltage, current, temperature) and then automatically draw a Resistance-Temperature (R-T) curve on the LabVIEW panel on a PC terminal.

Considering that the hardware part is only a matter of date input and output while the software part is the key of the whole system, thus the LabVIEW panel constructing and programming will be the main task in UEC.
