HEU traces its origin to the famous Military Engineering Academy.Established in Harbin on September 1st,1953.It has prosperous history as known to all.In 1970 a new university called Harbin Shipbuliding Engineering Institute was found.With the approval from the state Education commission.HSEI changed its name to Harbin Engineering Unversity in 1994.HEU is the sole national key unversity as Engineering oriented and encompassing sciences,management and humanites.
HEU,has covered a total area of nearly 80 hectares.Its total building floor space is more than 470,000 square meters.the university has 4 colleges,13 departments(including one computer center),39 undergradutespecialities,34 graduate specialities offering master s degrees,and 11 offering doctor degrees.Among them the Specialties of Underwater Acoustical Engineering being a national key discipline.
In recent years,the univercity has made tremendous progress and developed rapidly in teaching and scientific research, and work out a new approach in conformity whit its actual conditions to enhancing the teaching quality suppling tens of thousands of qualified personnel,and achieving nearly a thousand outstanding results in scientific research,including over 200 items winning national and provincial awards.
