Overseas Travel Accident Insurance

Non-Japanese citizen who plan to stay in Japan for less than three months are not able to enroll in the National Health Insurance scheme (see "Enrollment in National/Social Health Insurance and Pension" and "Medical Expenses").  We recommend international researchers to enroll in overseas travel accident insurance before coming to Japan.

Although people who stay in Japan for more than three months can enroll in the National Health Insurance scheme after they arrive in Tokyo, the scheme does not cover any accident during your travel.

If you are concerned about illness or accidents during your trip, we also recommend you to enroll in overseas travel accident insurance before coming to Japan.
