Hi, my name is Ihsen Aziz Ouedraogo and I come from Burkina Faso. I came to Japan in October 2010 with the Japanese Government Scholarship (MEXT). I used to work with a mobile network operator in my country and I have a background in Electrical Engineering, option Telecommunication & Networks (Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique, Dakar, Senegal, then UATM/Gasa Formation, Cotonou, Benin). After studying for a Master's degree in UEC, I am now a PhD student in Professor's Oki Laboratory. My research field is related to IP Networks Optimization.

Before arriving to Japan, I didn't know a lot about UEC. However once I arrived, I knew it was the proper place for me to be. UEC somehow appeared to me as what is called in my country the "School of posts an telecommunications"; I mean a school (University) which has contributed in making the history of the telecommunications in the country, and where several professors were successful professionals in national companies such as Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT). At the same time the university is providing cutting-edge and very specialized education in engineering to its students, who are ready to join well-known companies after their graduation.

The location in Chofu, near Shinjuku, is very convenient and the assistance provided by the university to international students (dormitory, trips for international students, cultural events & parties etc.) makes the place very easy to live. Further, the university is providing free Japanese classes of any level, and also preparation classes for Japanese proficiency tests. This is a very good opportunity for anyone who wants to enhance his linguistic skills during his enrollment in the university. Not only the university, but also the city of Chofu through the city office is helping international students for their integration in Japan by organizing several cultural events and also holding Japanese conversation classes.

As I have received the opportunity of being the first student to receive MEXT scholarship in my country, I would like in the future with the experience I acquire in Japan to help reinforcing the (technological) links between Japan and Africa, especially Burkina Faso.

Je suis Ihsen Aziz Ouédraogo et je viens du Burkina Faso. Je suis arrivé au Japon en octobre 2010 grâce à la bourse du gouvernement japonais (MEXT). J'ai travaillé dans une société de téléphonie mobile dans mon pays après avoir reçu une formation universitaire en génie électrique, avec option Télécommunication & Réseaux (Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique, Dakar, Sénégal, puis UATM/Gasa Formation, Cotonou, Bénin). Après avoir obtenu mon Master à l'Université d'Electro-Communications (UEC), je suis maintenant étudiant du cycle doctoral dans le laboratoire du Professeur Oki. Mon thème de recherche concerne l'optimisation des réseaux de l'Internet (IP).

Avant d'arriver au Japon je ne connaissais pas beaucoup cette université (UEC). Cependant une fois arrivé, j'ai compris que j'étais à la bonne place. Cette université m'a paru être ce qui existe chez nous comme « L'école des postes et télécommunications ». Par cela je veux dire que l'UEC a non seulement contribué à l'histoires des télécommunications au Japon, mais que l'enseignement est dispensé par des professeurs pétris d'expérience professionnelle et qui ont exercé dans des compagnies nationales comme NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone). Au même moment, cette université offre une formation de pointe en ingénierie à ses étudiants qui sont prêts à être embauchés dans les plus grandes compagnies, notamment au Japon.

La localisation à Chofu, près de Shinjuku, est très pratique et l'assistance donnée par l'université aux étudiants étrangers (dortoirs, voyages à l'intention des étudiants internationaux, événements culturels et fêtes etc.) rend le lieu facile à vivre. En outre, l'université offre des cours gratuits de japonais, tous niveaux confondus, et aussi des cours de préparation aux différents tests d'aptitude en japonais (JLPT etc.). Je pense que cela constitue une très bonne opportunité pour qui cherche à améliorer son japonais durant son enrôlement à l'université.
Non seulement l'université, mais la ville de Chofu également offre par l'intermédiaire de la mairie une assistance aux étudiants internationaux en organisant des événements culturels et des cours de conversation en japonais pour favoriser leur intégration au Japon.

Ayant eu la faveur d'être le premier étudiant à bénéficier de la bourse du gouvernement japonais dans mon pays, j'aimerais dans le futur à travers mon expérience acquise au Japon œuvrer au rapprochement des liens (technologiques) entre le Japon et l'Afrique, particulièrement le Burkina Faso.
