Hello. My name is Lee Sinyoung, from South Korea.
I came to Japan as a student of Preliminary Course for Japan-Korea Joint Exchange Program in Science and Engineering in October, 2010. After I learnt Japanese language, basic mathematics and science at the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) for 6 months, I enrolled to Department of Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Systems, Faculty of Informatics and Engineering as an undergraduate student. Now, I am 2nd year student of Master’s course in Department of Mechanical and Intelligent Systems Engineering, Graduate School of Informatics and Engineering. I am currently conducting research on biomedical engineering field related to human auditory organ in Professor Koike’s laboratory. After I complete my Master’s program, I am planning to apply for a Doctoral program to continue my research.
The laboratory I am working is doing researches related to clinical practices that normally do not conduct in laboratory of engineering science field. I believe the researches we are now conducting in our lab are worthwhile because these researches can help people in the future.
UEC has been conducting advanced researches in various fields. As a result, it has been selected as one of the universities under “The Programs for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities” supported by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). In addition, UEC archived excellent results on various researches. For example, the first “nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) “ in Japan , which developed “magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)” later, was invented by UEC faculty members. Also, the University developed the technology we could use for radio wave clock for the first time in Japan. Moreover, UEC gets the good hiring rate of our fresh graduates every year.
Although the number of international students of UEC is not high, they provide sufficient support to all international students. All staffs of International Students Section and faculty members of Center for International Programs and Exchange (CIPE) are always kind and give us good advice. UEC also takes place many international cultural exchange events, such as Kimono dressing event and overnight home stay program, etc. Likewise, in comparison with other universities, the activities by UEC Korean student society are more active.
UEC is located in Tokyo, Capital City of Japan. It is very convenient location to go to international airports in Tokyo area. It is a good place for studying as well as doing extracurricular activities because we can go to Shinjuku in 15 minutes by special express train.

안녕하세요. 저는 이신영이라고 합니다.
저는 고등학교 졸업 후, 한일공동이공계학부유학 2차 1기생으로 선발되어 2010년 10월에 일본에 왔습니다. 6개월간 전기통신대학에서 일본어 및 수학, 과학 등 예비교육을 받고, 2011년에 전기통신대학 정보이공학부 지능기계공학과에 입학하였습니다. 학부 졸업 후, 현재는 전기통신대학대학원 정보이공학연구과 지능기계전공 박사 전기과정 (석사과정) 2년차에 재학중입니다. 코이케연구실에서 사람의 청각기관에 관한 바이오엔지니어링 연구를 하고 있으며, 석사과정 수료 후에는 박사 후기과정 (박사과정)에 진학 할 예정입니다.
제가 속한 연구실은 보통 공학계 연구실에서는 경험 할 수 없는 의료현장에 밀접한 연구를 할 수 있는 연구실로서, 장래에 사람들에게 도움을 줄 수 있다는 점에서 보람을 느끼고 있습니다.
전기통신대학은 문부과학성의 “연구대학강화촉진사업”의 지원대상기관으로 결정 되는 등 다양한 연구 분야에 힘을 쏟고 있는 대학입니다. MRI의 원형이 되는 일본최초의 핵자기공명장치(NMR)의 발명, 일본최초 전파시계 개발에 쓰인 기술 발명 등 여러분야에서 뛰어난 실적을 남기고 있습니다. 또한, 연구 뿐만 아니라 일본 내 취직률 순위로도 손 꼽힙니다.
전기통신대학은 종합대학이 아닌만큼 유학생 수가 많은 편은 아니지만, 학교생활에 있어서 유학생에 대한 지원은 좋은 편이라고 생각합니다. 유학생 사무실 직원분들이나 선생님들이 매우 친절하시고, 조언도 많이 주십니다. 유학생을 대상으로 한 기모노체험, 홈스테이 등 이벤트도 많이 있어 국제교류 기회도 많습니다. 물론, 한국인유학생회 선후배간의 교류도 타대학에 비해 활발하다고 생각합니다.
또한, 전기통신대학은 일본의 수도 동경에 위치해 있어 국제공항까지의 교통도 편리하며, 동경의 중심지 신주쿠까지 환승없이 15분만에 갈 수 있기 때문에 공부 뿐만 아니라 학외활동을 하기에도 좋다고 생각합니다.
