Hi there, my name is Witássio dos Santos Miranda de Oliveira, I'm Brazilian, from Garanhuns, Pernambuco, I'm a 4th year student under Computer Science at the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Unidade Acadêmica de Garanhuns (UFRPE - UAG), and, like you, I had the opportunity to join an exchange program and picked Japan as the country to have this experience in, and, like you (probably), I had many options of universities that I could apply for, sadly only a few universities had an English program for their courses, for me that was essential, because by that time I wasn't able to speak even a single word in Japanese, this limitation of mine ended up crossing out a lot of options, but still I had plenty of them, every single one with their own pros and cons, but in the end I chose UEC and now I'm going to try and explain my reasons as well as tell you how life in here has been like.

The University of Electro-communications, name in English for the university, is located in Tokyo, that alone is a big enough reason to make some people want to come here, it's very near the Chofu station and the station is only a few minutes from Shijuku, for those who don't know it from Shinjuku you can go pretty much anywhere in Tokyo. The university has a support staff for the international exchanged students, and that team is just fundamental to foreigners (get ready to sign and deliver a lot of paperwork), they will help out in many activities and will always be available if you need them. But the most important thing, the university offers a lot of subjects on the fields of Engineering and Communication and many of those are in English, which is essential for people like me that are coming here without knowing any Japanese, besides that, there are Japanese Language courses in many levels, from introductory to advanced, the introductory one is intensive with seven classes per week (about ten hours) and the advanced one is optional with just one or two, that means that the better your Japanese is the more free time you're going to get to take other courses that you might be interested in and if your Japanese isn't good it'll definitely get way better.

To summarize it, the daily life experience in Japan is wonderful and UEC will make this experience even more Unique and Exciting, see you next semester.

Oi, caro leitor, meu nome é Witássio dos Santos Miranda de Oliveira, sou brasileiro, de Garanhuns, Pernambuco, aluno do oitavo período do curso de Ciência da Computação da Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Unidade Acadêmica de Garanhuns (UFRPE - UAG), assim como você que está lendo este texto tive a oportunidade de fazer um intercâmbio e escolhi o Japão como país destino para essa experiência e, assim como você, tive diversas opções de universidade para me aplicar, infelizmente poucas universidades ofertavam cursos em inglês, o que pra mim era um requisito fundamental já que na época eu não sabia sequer uma palavra em japonês, esse requisito acabou por eliminar um grande número de opções, mas ainda assim ainda haviam muitas, todas com o seu mérito, mas ao final foi a UEC que escolhi e este texto é para explicar resumidamente o porquê.

The University of Electro-communications, nome em inglês da universidade, está localizada em Tóquio, grande atrativo para qualquer pessoa que venha ao Japão, a estação de Chofu fica há poucos minutos de Shinjuku, de onde se pode ir para praticamente qualquer lugar. A universidade possui uma equipe de apoio ao aluno de intercâmbio que é fundamental para estrangeiros recém-chegados (preparem-se para muita burocracia e papéis), eles lhe acompanharam em diversas atividades e sempre estarão disponíveis para ajudar em qualquer problema que você por ventura venha a ter. Mas o mais importante, a universidade oferta diversas disciplinas nas áreas de engenharia e comunicação com opção em inglês, essencial para quem não sabe japonês ou não se sente confiante o suficiente ainda para aulas em japonês, além disso, há a oferta de um curso intensivo de japonês que se divide em diversos níveis, do introdutório ao avançado, o introdutório tem uma grade de 7 aulas semanais e o avançado somente 1 ou 2, o que significa que quanto melhor seu japonês, mais tempo livre para outras disciplinas você terá.

Em resumo, a experiência de vida no Japão é maravilhosa e a UEC fará dessa experiência a mais perfeita possível, vejo você próximo semestre.
