Hello! My name is Roman Marangon Gustavo and I come from Porto Alegre. My major is in Digital Game Development at UNISINOS University.

I did not know at all how to speak japanese before coming to Japan, and that would be the main, if not the only, downside on my choice of studying in japanese ground. It makes the life here a little difficult, but if you are looking for an adventure that's how you get plenty. Japanese language won't be a problem for long though. UEC offers a great course on japanese language, with great teachers. And you may also easily join clubs to meet japanese students and even practice your japanese/english, besides, of course, doing the club's activities. UEC offers its students an amazing environment for cultural exchange, as you will be in touch with students from all over the world.

I must mention the International Office's staff, who have helped with everything we needed. It is thanks to them that you won't feel lost when you first come here, even if, like me, you don't know any japanese.

As for the courses that UEC offers, they are both in engineering and computer science fields, as well as some few courses on advanced english, and if you are able to come up with a good project you may even get to do some laboratory work during your second semester here.

Living in Chofu is great. We are close to the center of Tokyo, but not quite there, so that the city is not crowded, while Shinjuku and Shibuya are a just few minutes by train/subway away. UEC is only 15 minutes by bike away from our apartments, and the city is fairly plain so that it takes little effort to ride the bike in it.

The experience of living in Chofu and studying at UEC has been great so far.

Olá, meu nome é Gustavo Roman Marangon e eu sou de Porto Alegre. Minha graduação é em Jogos Digitais na Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos(UNISINOS).

Antes de vir para o Japão eu não sabia falar japonês, e este é o maior, se não o único, ponto negativo na minha escolha de estudar em solo japonês. Isso torna a vida aqui um pouco difícil, mas se você estiver aberto a aventuras, tenha certeza de que terá várias. Contudo a língua japonesa não deverá ser problema por muito tempo. A UEC oferece um curso de japonês excelente, com ótimos professores. E tambem é bem fácil entrar nos clubes de alunos da universidade, de modo a conhecer estudantes japoneses, praticar tanto o seu inglês quanto o seu japonês e ainda por cima realizar as atividades do clube. A UEC possui estudantes de todas as partes do mundo, propiciando um ambiente muito favorável para trocas culturais.

Eu preciso falar dos funcionários do Escritório Internacional, que nos ajudaram com tudo o que precisamos até agora. Será graças a eles que você não se sentirá muito perdido quando recém chegar aqui, mesmo que, como eu, não saiba falar japonês.

Quanto aos cursos que a UEC oferece aos alunos internacionais, eles são am ambas as areas de engenharia(em geral) e da ciência da computação, bem como alguns cursos em inglês avançado, e se voce conseguir elaborar um bom projeto é possível trabalhar em um laboratório durante o segundo semestre, em um processo semelhante ao da Iniciação Científica no Brasil.

Viver em Chofu é muito bom. A cidade está localizada perto do centro de Tóquio, mas não tão perto, de modo que não é muito lotada, tendo um ar de bairro residencial, enquanto cidades centrais como Shinjuku e Shibuya estão a poucos minutos de trem/metrô daqui. A UEC fica a uns 15 minutos de bicicleta dos nossos apartamentos, e a cidade possui terreno bem plano de modo que não é necessário se esforçar muito para pedalar nela.

A experiência de viver em Chofu e estudar na UEC tem sido ótima até agora.
