Mariana Makiuchi

Hello! My name is Mariana Makiuchi and I am a Mechatronics Engineering third year undergraduate student at the University of Brasilia (UnB). At the moment, I study at UEC helped by the Brazilian Government Program Science without Borders.

Here I discovered that, to survive daily situations in Tokyo, it is not necessary to have advance skills in Japanese language. And that, for all the non-daily situations and emergencies, the International Office staff would always help me a lot and all the Brazilians students are very thankful to them. I really did not expect such competent and friendly staff like them.

At UEC campus, there are lots of laboratories with some excellent researches, a library with lots of different environments to guarantee a good self-study, a store, a restaurant and two cafeterias. In daily life at campus, we always meet other international students and we can discover other parts of the world when we share experiences and knowledge related to our cultures.

I have chosen Japan not only because I wanted to learn Japanese or because of its culture, but mainly because I was looking for something different than what I was used to. Fortunately, I can say that every day lived here is different from the others and that living literally in the other side of the world brings lots of learnings and new experiences.  Thus, each moment here is a moment of growth as a human being.

I am sure that everything that I learned here, some incredible moments I lived and wonderful people I met I will never forget.

Olá! Meu nome é Mariana Makiuchi e eu estou no terceiro ano de graduação do curso de Engenharia Mecatrônica na Universidade de Brasília (UnB). Atualmente, estudo na UEC auxiliada pelo programa do governo brasileiro, o Ciência sem Fronteiras.

Aqui eu descobri que, para sobreviver a situações cotidianas em Tóquio, não é necessário o domínio da língua japonesa. E, para todas as situações não corriqueiras e emergências, os funcionários do International Office sempre me ajudaram muito e todos os estudantes brasileiros são muito gratos a eles. Eu realmente não esperava uma equipe tão competente e amigável como eles.

No campus da UEC, existem vários laboratórios com algumas pesquisas excelentes, uma biblioteca com vários ambientes diferentes para garantir um bom estudo individual, uma loja, um restaurante e dois refeitórios. No dia a dia no campus, sempre encontramos outros estudantes internacionais e podemos descobrir outras partes do mundo quando trocamos experiências e conhecimentos relacionados às nossas culturas.

Eu escolhi o Japão não só porque eu queria aprender japonês ou por causa da cultura, mas principalmente porque eu procurava viver algo diferente do que eu estava acostumada. Felizmente, posso dizer que cada dia vivido aqui é diferente dos outros e que viver literalmente do outro lado do mundo traz muitos aprendizados e experiências novas.  Assim, cada momento aqui é um momento de crescimento como ser humano.

Tenho certeza de que tudo que eu aprendi aqui, alguns momentos incríveis que vivi e pessoas maravilhosas que conheci eu nunca vou esquecer.
